BC basketball coach Al Skinner was fired today. There was a mutual agreement between AD Gene DeFilippo last week before Skinner interviewed for the coaching opening at St. John's. After a 15-16 season the decision is still a little shocking. The Eagles have been to 7 out of the last 10 NCAA tournaments which isn't bad. The emerging candidates are Richmond head coach Chris Mooney, Harvard head coach Tommy AMAker, Northeastern coach Bill Coen, and Cornell Steve Donahue. My vote is for the Cornell head MAn. After seeing what he could do with Ivy League talent I would be optimistic with the possibilities of his success with ACC talent. Skinner had a great run and brought a lot of success to the program as well as NBA talent. I think the key is to get a coach who can recruit nationwide and I don't know if BC has the basketball clout to draw someone like that to the opening. Reports say DeFilippo looks to make a hiring within the next week or so.
