Worst Team in NBA?

Are we the worst team in the NBA? Did we just lost to a team with 5 wins? Where is Paul Pierce? How bad are we that we can't play on the same court as the NETS? We look like a team whose record is 5-52. KG was the only Celtic who looked they wanted to play today. The Nets had a huge advantage at the free throw line and out hustled the Celtics at every chance they got. The C's will drop to 16-11 at home which makes there road record 20-10. Two years ago we were the play off team that could only win at home. Now we are a 4 or 5 seed who will try to win a series by stealing games on the road. This team MAy be old but in the season time is still on their side but pretty soon I am going to stop writing about this team. They look to be lacking passion which MAkes me wonder if Doc still has a hold of these Celtics.

College BBall

Some big games this weekend as Tourney Time approaches. Kentucky went down in Knoxville as Bruce Pearl, a BC alum, out coached John Callipari for a 74-65 win. Tennessee is an interesting team, 21 wins and 9 in Sec play, they have been somewhat inconsistent but play a brand of high energy basketball that is as unique as their coach. Another interesting team who lost today is Georgetown. Notre Dame, minus All American Luke Harangody, went into DC and beat the Hoyas handily 78-64. It has been hard to figure out the Hoyas who are capable of being a final four team when they play at their best. The same team that beat Villanova by 13 and Duke by 12 has lost to USF by 8 and Old Dominion. Looking forward to other games this weekend there are three big MAtch-ups of ranked teams that will determine conference tournament seeding and also have tournament seeding implications.
The huge game tonight between Syracuse, ranked number 4, and Villanova, ranked number 8, will be played against the largest regular season crowd in NCAA history. It is very possible that both of these teams could capture a number 1 seed in the tournament and I think this game is more crucial for Nova in that regard. The Wildcats have lost 2 out of their last 3 Big East games. Nova is a perimeter based team lead by Scotty Reynolds MAtch-up pretty well against the famous Cuse 2-3 zone. They will need to find scoring from someone off the bench or players like Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher. For Syracuse the key will be establishing Arinze Onuaku early and taking advantage of their strength inside. This team can beat you from many places by look for Iowa State transfer Wesley Johnson to have a huge game in front of the huge crowd. A key battle will be the fight on the glass I believe the team that controls the board with control the offense tempo and ultimately win the game. I see the Orange pulling it out in the Carrier Dome.
Out west it will be number 11 BYU against number 12 New Mexico. BYU is led by game changing guard Jimmer Fredette who is not only their leading scorer but leading assist MAn. For the Cougars it is essential he gets it going offensively and captains the BYU ship well. In perhaps the biggest game in conference history, which could propel one team to and number 3 or 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, having a rowdy home crowd behind them will help BYU immensely. New Mexico is personified by swing MAn Darington Hobson who can do so many things athletically he is a perfect leader in an uptempo Lobo attack. If he get deep into the BYU defense it will be hard for the Cougars to MAtch up with his intensity and athletic ability. It should be a wild one out west. I look for the Steve Alford led Lobos to come into Brigham Young and steal a victory.
The last key MAtch up yet to be played is Purdue versus Michigan State. Purdue survived a battle with Minnesota without Robbie Hummel, who is lost for the season with a torn ACL, but this game will be much harder to get through. E'Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson will have to shoulder more of the load without sharp shooter Hummel. The Spartans have lost 4 of their last 6 games and need this road win to build confidence for the Big Ten tournament and NCAA dance. Without Hummel's offense and defensive leadership I see Kalin Lucas and RayMAr Morgan imposing their wills on the game. Expect a low scoring physical Big Ten battle. I am picking Michigan State because I think Coach Tom Izzo will stress the importance of this game to his team and they will find a way to take advantage of a short handed BoilerMAker squad. NorMAlly I don't pick the road team in huge games but today after seeing ND dominate G-town I feel a like it could be a weekend for road warriors to emerge.

MAssive Failure

This is how this game felt. A nasty car wreck you can't take your eyes off. Yet another game in which we control the MAjority of the contest and then collapse down the stretch. It could have been a win that would have solidified the Celtics rebirth after the break. Instead it's another opportunity for all media and fans to tell us how old and tired we play. Nate Robinson provided a small spurt in the first half but you can tell he just hasn't fit in yet, it's way to fast to even write about it to be honest. No Paul Pierce is always bad but it really showed. Rondo should not be taking the most shots on the team when Pierce is hurt, at least have it be Ray who is still playing like a MAn possessed. Well, it stinks the Cavs just did that. It stinks we looked terrible. At least we get to play the Nets next.

Debuting as we speak. Shooting 1-2 2 points and an assist. Up 13 on NYC.

My How They've Grown

I saw these photos on Bartstool today. This is Lizzie McGuire aka Hillary Duff "reacting" to the MArriage proposal from NHL player Mike Comrie.

Funny combination. Nikki Minaj. Harriet the Spy. Dawson's Creek/ Varsity Blues dude.

Dreams

I'm not talking about what you wanted to be when you grew up I'm talking about the weird encounters with monsters, flying, random people from middle school, Celebs they would like to sleep with, that the majority of people love to discuss daily. I have friends that can't wait to tell me about the adventures they have had while sleeping. It's a pet peeve of mine that people assume I want to listen to them ramble on about their dreams. I don't. I think it's a waste of my time. Now MAny people believe I am jealous because I rarely remember my dreams but I am thankful I don't. I wouldn't want to put others through what my friends put me through. Most people when recounting their dreams don't have every detail worked out before sharing so the actually story telling is sub-par. As someone who really enjoys a good story I wouldn't want to lead people into something that I couldn't deliver on and often that's what happens to me. It's like I'm the donkey going for the carrot on a stick I will never reach. Often the person who is retelling their dream is invested in the dream fully, and often these conversations happen in the morning I don't have the level of attentiveness or caring to be fully invested as a story-teller or audience member. As far as the content coming true, or meaning more then it actually does, I firmly believe that if you are looking for signs in life look no further then what happens on a day to day basis. Why go searching in the MAde up mishaps from one's REM cycle? I have had one recurring dream that pops up every now and then, I am giving Gilligan from Gilliagn's Island a piggy back then as soon as we are about to go off the big cliff I wake up. I have never almost fallen off a cliff and unless working at summer camp do I give piggy backs. Why would I be giving Gilligan a piggy back ride? I don't know and frankly I don't care. I don't think there are any hidden meanings in this dream, I think it is a weird image patched together by my brain and that is all. So please if you ever get the urge to tell me your dream at least have the courtesy to MAke sure you tell it with grace and skill. Thanks.

Wilfork Franchised

This move was predcited by MAny and since a long term deal is still possible it's the right move. Now even if he gets signed by another team the Pats will pick up cap space and two first round picks. It's a win win in my opinion. In a weak off season for corners, expect the Pats to target wide outs and linebackers. Whatever need they do not fulfill in free agency will be addressed in April's draft.

Heaven on Ice

In a 5-3 victory the US Men's Ice Hockey team beat Canada and advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. Statement by US hockey enough said. The medal round will be interesting because although this win sends a message the field is wide open and highly competitive. Bode Miller also MAde news getting his first Olympic Gold in the Super Combined. It is nice to see him back on top of the skiing world. The Celts lost but frankly they did what they had to do on the road trip and that was beat LA. Home Tuesday against the Knicks with the big Nate debut. John Lackey was interviewed in Fort Myers and let me tell you he looks pumped to be on the Sox. Baseball starting seems weird but I am looking forward to the 10 team!

Celts, Tiger, BC

It seems as if the Celtics are back on track. Three big west coast wins should restore confidence back in the green MAchine. Winning on back to back nights at LA and Portland is a good step in the right direction. Whether the Lakers had Kobe or not the Celtics had to win and pulled it out. In the two games against the Lakers it feels as if the two are destined to meet again in the playoffs, at least in my mind. The C's have another showdown Sunday in Denver with a Nuggets team that is coming off an unfortunate loss against the lowly Wizards. The game will be on ABC and sure to be a tight one. Ray Allen has been shooting lights out and looks rejuvenated after the break. He shot 10-15 against the Lakers and 9-14 against the Blazers. It would be a huge change to this team if he can continue to play like this, even 80% of this, because it takes pressure off of Pierce and Rondo. It will be interesting to see how Nate can change the dynamic even further when he debuts Tuesday at the Garden against none other then his former team, the New York Knicks.
I wanted to blog about Tiger Wood's statement yesterday but never got around to it. This is the most public affair since Bill Clinton and I am torn about how it has been covered by the media and handled by Woods. What Woods did was wrong and inexcusable. As far as media coverage, it has been a blood bath. I feel just terrible for Tiger's wife and kids, I can't imagine the number of photographers following them and it is unfortunate that their lives have become a story because of the dumb decisions by a selfish MAn. The tabloid coverage has been the most intense in history, as woMAn after woMAn come forward the magazines gain ammo day by day. From a journalists point of view this story presents a moral reaction about whether or not to cover the story, although it is one of the most famous people on the earth this story is about a tortured MAn most likely ruining his MArriage. I think it's none of our business about what he did, when he did, what his reasons were, and frankly any details about the future of his MArriage. In saying that I am not naive to how the world works, as a person who is so recognizable and important to society as a figure this story will get coverage regardless and Tiger will be ridiculed regardless as he should be. I think that Tiger never should have taken 83 days to come out and say these things, although I personally don't think he needed to apologize to anybody except his corporate sponsors for which he stood in front of society as a certain role model. Bottom line what he did was wrong, he doesn't owe America or Golf anything, and he needs to do whatever he needs to MAke sure his family doesn't suffer any further than they already have.
This early afternoon I went to Conte Forum with my brother and pop to watch two 3-9 teams in an ACC battle of the basement. NorMAlly when UNC comes to town they are ranked in the top ten and have at least one All American candidate this UNC is a totally different entity. With two seniors that have underachieved this young team hasn't lived up to the UNC pedigree. BC has had the same problems of youth with a roster that has only one senior. The teams also have both been incredibly inconsistent losing games that they really shouldn't. In a tough back and forth battle it was nice to see BC pull of a 4 point win. Reggie Jackson got his first start of the season and led the Eagles with 17 points including a thunderous alley-oop late in the second half. Sophomore Evan Ravenel played crucial minutes off the bench and produced with 8 points 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. He hasn't played much at all this season and it was great to see a young bench player step up in a big game. Yes I said big game because despite both teams being 3-9 in ACC play UNC coming to town is always big not too mention BC is trying to MAintain NIT status. As I have said before it is now up to a deep ACC tournament run in order for the miniscule NCAA tournament hope to come too.

P.S- The US continues to pile up the medals in Vancouver. Showdown with Canada in hockey tomorrow. Lindsey Vonn gets her second medal. US takes home figure skating gold.

More Movement

A plethora of names were on the move in the NBA today. Tyrus ThoMAs went to the Bobcats, Kevin MArtin to the Rockets, Ronnie Brewer to the Grizzlies, but the biggest name was T-MAc going to the New York Knickerbockers. Not only does it help the Knicks team immediately but it will provide them with sufficient cap space to sign two maximum contract free agents. This means the Knicks have set themselves up for the possibility to bring in two of the following, in perhaps the most anticipated free agency period ever, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, Amare Stoudemire, Dirk Nowitzki, Ray Allen, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson, MAnu Ginobili, and Carlos Boozer. It would be every basketball fans dream to see LeBron and Wade play together but only time will tell who the Knicks target. The other move that was good to see happen was the acquisition of Nate Robinson, as well as MArcus Landry, from the Knicks by the Boston Celtics. I don't see MAny negatives to this moves. He is a high energy scorer and playMAker which we need coming off the bench. He MAy have had problems with Knicks coach Mike D'antoni but he expressed a desire to come to Boston and Doc Rivers is a players coach. Whether or not this is the move that MAkes us a title threat again reMAins to be seen but it was a necessary move at the least. Celtics play the Lakers late tonight, wish Nate could play, minus Kobe Bryant so it is essential to win against a depleted Lake Show.

In the Olympics Lindsey Vonn crashed in the slalom portion of the Super Combined event after being in first place during the first portion of the event. It would have been great to see Lindsey get two golds in her first two events but another story has emerged from her fall and that is Julia MAncuso. After finishing behind Vonn by half a second in her first event earning a silver medal she came back to win another silver in the Super Combined. This gives her 3 medals in two Olympics. She is only 25 so she will have at least two more Olympics to add to that total. She made a splash at the Turin games winning her gold after never placing in a big national event. If she medals again she MAy start stealing headlines from miss Vonn. On the men's side of the games Shaun White further solidified himself as the greatest snowboarder of all time by clinching a gold medal after his first run yesterday in the half-pipe. To top that he outdid he first run by successfully executing a McTwist 1260. In speed skating Shani Davis became the first man to win back to back gold medals in the 1,000 meter event and after emerging at the Turin games Davis is now the class of speed skating. The US hockey teams both won easily in their pool play games both improving to 2-0. The US leads in medals with 15 overall and hopes to keep their lead over Germany throughout the entire games.

Cavs MAking Moves

It's up to you Mr. Ainge. The Cavs MAde waves today picking up Antawn Jamison. The Cavs are officially scary. Before this move I didn't see them as a threat because it was essentially the same team that lost to the Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals last year. Jamison adds another scoring threat, a decent enough defender and solid rebounder. He creates a lot of MAtch-up problems with his combination of size and abilities to shoot from deep range. Rumors have resurfaced that the Knicks and Celtics are rekindling there trade talk fire about Nate Robinson. The discussed pieces that would be leaving J.R Giddens, Bill Walker, MArquis Daniels, and Eddie House. The last two mentioned would be really hard to part with. MArquis hasn't even got a chance to get going yet I would hate to see him go. Eddie's ability to shoot the three is uncanny and would be really damaging to our bench scoring. With the Cavs MAking this power move the Celtics must do something in order to keep up. The deadline is almost over so we will find out shortly is the C's with try and challenge the LeBron's.

Few Things

Discovered a new website courtesy of BroBible. It's called GoodMusicAllDay and they live up to the name. Since visiting the site I have downloaded a ridiculous amount of quality stuff. Found a bunch of crazy MAsh-ups and mixtapes I should have already had. It's simply goodmusicallday.com is you are at all a fan of music go peep this website.
In sports, NBA trade buzz still swirls around as visions of AMAre in a Cavs jersey MAkes me cringe. After the blockbuster involving Caron Butler and Josh Howard the next big name to move was MArcus Camby as he was shipped to Portland. It doesn't seem likely the Celtics will MAke any moves by Thursday so I'm not sure I'm crazy about how healthy we are and how well we are playing but I am very hopeful for the second half. Word on the streets is that V-MArt wants a long-term deal with the Sox. If I am Theo I'd be pushing to sign an extension and lock him up. He's versatile and talented and apparently wants to be here, pay the MAn. In the Olympics the US is leading with 8 medals and the men's hockey team debuted with a 3-1 win. Bode Miller took home a bronze medal and the much anticipated debut of Lindsey Vonn is still to come. She has had a media feeding frenzy ever since she was injured and graced the cover of SI I hope for her sake she shows up and performs. The Raiders proved why they are a failure as a franchise by making Sebastain Janikowski the richest kicker in the league. Kickers are hard to come by I guess but making him the richest kicker shouldn't be at the top of their priority list. Al Davis needs to hand the reins over.

Turning Point

Most sports fans MAke a bigger deal out of an All-Star break when there team is struggling and that is exactly what I am about to do. Last night as I sipped a Blue Moon at Lucky Strike, might be my new favorite place, in DC I watched the NBA HORSE portion of All-Star weekend. It featured defending champ Kevin Durant, OMAri Casspi, and Rondo. The final two players were Rondo and Durant once the champ eyed his second straight title he planted himself behind the three point line assuming Rondo wouldn't hang for three more letters. It was encouraging to see Rondo go shot for shot with Durant for about 8 threes. I don't think he's MAde that MAny in his career. It's a sMAll thing but it MAade me feel better about his play/improvement in generalities. Paul Pierce backed up his confident trash talk and took home the 3 point championship becoming the first Celtic to do so since Larry Bird. MAybe all the trash talk, laughs, court side handshakes with kg, and relaxed atmosphere is what the Celtic stars need to rebound after the break. The Bruins have won 4 straight after losing 11 straight. They needed a stretch like this to salvage any hope for the season. Now with the olympic break forthcoming it seems as if the B's have crept back into the top 8 in the Eastern Conference and have an outside chance at winning the division. It isn't much to be excited about but my hopes are higher then they have been in recent weeks.

Big Baby, Buh-Bye?

Word is that the C's are in talks with the Charlotte Bobcats to trade Big Baby for D.J Augustin. I think if it isn't a BS rumor it's a great move. With Perk, Sheed, KG, and Shledon we would still be deep on the front line. We haven't had a back up point guard since Rondo has assumed the starting role. In College Augustin was a great scorer, but in the NBA he has proved to be a solid back up PG with playMAking abilities. If this does happen Bostonians won't have to worry about calling him "Uno Uno" anymore. This move MAkes me think it is less likely the Celts will trade Ray Allen but rumors about his departure are out there to so it will be interesting to see what the Green do as the deadline approaches.

"Pain in my Assholes!"

One of Tair's favorite catch phrases from his countryman describes my day tomorrow perfectly. My alarm will go off at 8 am so I can make it to my 9 am class on time. Not only do I hate morning classes but I am getting up to do something some people rank higher then death, which is mind blowing to me how death could be below anything but that is for another day, and that is speak publicly. I will be giving a 3 minute speech on someone I met in class. His name is Paul, he's nice, not entirely entertaining but hey luck of the draw. I'm sure he was intoxicated with joy to have the 6'3 monotone kid describe him too. After that I have to take a Cultura quiz in Spanish. Don't get me wrong Spanish is beautiful but learning somebody else's language is really hard. I have decent geography skills but none that pertain to South America so that should be a doozy. Then to top it all off I have my first exam in rhetorical tradition. Great class, great professor, a crap load of MAterial. Mind you it is all very graspable but on a day with a speech and quiz I could be burned out by the time I MAke it to the exam. I didn't study correctly either, time wise that is, I think my methods are my methods and every person learns differently but waiting until today to study for the exam was a mistake and will probably take a gigantic bite out of my rear. By the way tomorrow it's supposed to snow all day which will be a lovely backdrop for the day. Anyone in college has had a day like this in which I like to call, and no I'm not going to say the "Perfect Storm", a "Clusterf*ck". If I have any energy I will also have to bring forth a supremely superb effort at my 8 pm intramural basketball game in which "442", team name, will battle a more talented bunch of BC ballers. Time for Lost and yes I will mute the TV during commercials.

Champs

This pic is from the 08 title game but we just won the Beanpot which is dominated by BU. Glad we beat them. Sucks to BU. Ended up being a tight game which was great to see. The Eagles look good and headed into the end of Hockey East play and looking forward to playoff time BC looks primed for another title run.

Curren$y

It is fitting that the day after the Saints win their first Super Bowl New Orleans native Curren$y dropped his Smokee Robinson Mixtape. The cover is pretty tight. Here is a link to download.

WHO DAT!

Sean Payton has some big balls. I love the onside kick call. I also loved going for it on fourth at the goal line even though they were stuffed. The Saints D MAde a huge play. Drew Brees tied Tom Brady's record for completions in a Super Bowl. Burbs wishes he was on Bourbon Street tonight. I'm glad this team won and ruined the Colts chance at a mini dynasty. Everyone is a Saint tonight!

Big Day

Duke is in town today. Last year we beat them. I hate them. Always have always will. The encouragement I have is the first half we played against the Blue Devils. At Cameron stadium we handled them inside and out and was down only 3 at halftime. Then of course Duke decided to be Duke and went on a ridiculous run to the open the second half and won the game by 20. BC is probably a NIT team at best unless there is an improbable ACC run in them. Reggie Jackson must come to score and lead today for the Eagles to have any chance of an upset.
The other reason today is a big day is because I am MAking my Super Bowl pick. As it always is in the championship game defense will be the key. The Colts D has never scared me and they will be playing with a hobbling Dwight Freeney who is the most dominating player in the last decade. The Saints defense just flat out isn't good unless they force turnovers. They both have to stop aMAzing quarterbacks. So, Who will do it? My answer to you is another question, WHO DAT! They MAy be the underdogs but I can't pick against them. If the Saints can make MAnning MAke a couple mistakes then they can pull off the upset. Look for a monster game out of Jeremy Shockey and Dallas Clark. These two tight ends are hard to MAtchup against. It will be a high scoring affair that goes down to the end. Saints 38-35! WHO DAT?! WHO DAT?!

Sayid Lives and Questions Questions and More Questions!

It was a solid two hour premiere. As the picture shows it was a two hour adventure full of fireworks. We all knew there was no way an atom bomb would just make everything go away. Thank the lord that he didn't die. It will be interesting to see how the struggle between the Oceanic survivors, Temple people and Jacob's enemy who inhabits John Locke's body. It is sad that Juliet dies I never really liked her character but I appreciated the fact she occupied Sawyer so he didn't have such a broner for Jack. As usual Lost didn't start a new tradition of answering any questions but giving us more questions. Why did we see the island under water? Why are the flashbacks or flash-forwards as if the crash never happened? Who are these temple people? Why won't that ninja from Rush Hour 3 just speak english? What is Ben's deal? Now what? Is Hurley going to be a leader now because he sees dead people? Will the real Locke come back? How do you kill the guy who turns into the black cloud? Has Kate got progressively more and more annoying every season and every episode? How stupid is that Deputy MArshall who always tries to arrest Kate? Like I said before this show never stops entertaining the fans. I am pumped for the rest of the season and it will undoubtedly be worth watching despite the shear frustration.

UConn Stumbles Again and Kobe's Record

It is crazy to see teams like UConn and UNC with such terrible records. My entire life these two teams have been college basketball Royalty and this year they look flat out bad. UConn was dominated inside and outside by Rick Pintino's Cardinals. The Huskies looked flat and never seemed to find a rhythm. The loss drops their Big Eats record to 3-6 the most loses a UConn has had in the past 4 seasons and with games against West Virginia, Syracuse and Villanova things do not look good for Jim Calhoun, who hopefully gets healthy soon, and company. With this loss UConn is in crisis mode for a possible at large NCAA bid, it MAy take a miracle MAdison Square Garden run in order for the Huskies to play in the month of MArch. UNC is an interesting story as well. The defending champs already have 8 loses. Although this team lost almost all of their talent but Roy Williams is blessed with recruiting classes full of any McDonald's All American he desires. This team should be much better then they are, uncharacteristic loses at home to Wake Forest and UVA are truly confusing. Roy Williams is a great coach and if there is anyone who can fire up a team it is him so it will be interesting to see if UNC can turn it around quickly in order to salvage a NCAA tournament bid.
In the NBA tonight Kobe Bryant became the Lakers all-time leading scorer and officially has become the most recognizable and arguably the BEST Laker ever. It is hard to argue with the big shots he makes and the big numbers he puts up, not to mention the MAn has won 4 NBA title rings. I despise the Lakers and hate to see him sink game winners like the one in the Garden on Sunday but the MAn is a legend and deserves some praise on breaking Jerry West's record.

That's a Tommy Point!!!

Well I finally can feel ok about the Green. The schedule really provided us with a much needed win with a trip to DC after a horrible three game stretch. With home games against New Jersey and Miami coming up before another match up with Orlando at home and a trip to New Orleans, who are minus CP3, the C's could get a nice winning streak going before the All-Star game. KG shot 8/9 from the field and Tony Allen was a great spark plug off the bench. Rondo looked like the All-Star he is. It was scary to see Paul griMAce over his foot/ankle injury. I iMAgine Doc kept him out as a precaution. Be strong Truth.

Star Wars

Adidas is coming out with a new collection of Star Wars based kicks. Some of them are pretty sweet. I like the Yoda's personally. Here is a link to the rest of the collection thanks to Sneaker Freaker. http://www.sneakerfreaker.com/feature/adidas-starwars-lookbook/
