September 14th

It was MAde known via Twitter that September 14th will be a huge day for Hip-Hop album releases. Big Sean will release his debut Finally Famous, Kanye West will release Good Ass Job and Kid Cudder will release his sophomore effort MAn On The Moon Part 2 The Legend of Mr. Rager. Some interesting titles especially Cudders which is very fitting after that liquid cocaine arrest! This type of news is very exciting for any music and Hip-Hop fan. Big Sean's debut has been much anticipated after he has released three very solid mixtapes. No MAtter how much you like Kanye he produces quality album and it should be another hopeful classic compilation. For me personally I am most excited about Kid Cudi's CD he is one of my favorite new rappers and after hearing what he and Chip did on the song "All Talk" I think the songs that actually MAke the album will be very good.

Being Drunk-An Excuse or Not?

Almost all of us have done things we regret, more often then not especially in a setting such as college drugs and alcohol come into play. I'm not talking about passing out and ending up like the guy pictured above but more sexual misfortunes and hook-ups that have escaped ones memory. A friend and I were having a debate whether being drunk is an excuse for a mistake hook-up. We were on opposing sides. I MAy be naiive but I truly believe that wether you are drunk or not there is a moment before every sexual encounter that your brain and conscience decide wether or not this is right and wether or not you want to partake in the craziness. I believe that every person has control of their every action no MAtter the substance. This is an intense stance to take because there are MAny powerful drugs out there that can blur a huMAns ability to be rational. He explained a situation in which he had been so drunk he had done something he never ever would have if sober, now this argument is a valid one but I explained that his drunk brain probably still had a debate about wether or not to actually do it. He didn't agree whatsoever. This is one of those issues which there is no right answer but everyone is on one side or the other. I strongly suggest to ask your friends what they think, it says a lot about what kind of people they are and who they plan on being.

His Nickname Should Be Clutch

Landon Donovan scribbled his name of the stones of history today as his 92 minute goal propelled the US national team into the knockout stage of the 2010 world cup. Hats off to him for getting them back into the Slovenia game and MAking his MArk on US soccer history with his rebound goal against Algeria today. It was great to see this team comeback again after being denied a perfectly legal goal AGAIN! I don't like to blame refs in any sports loss, even though MAny have deserved it, but if the US had tied and not advanced they would have had a very legitimate beef with the FIFA refs. Thank all that is holy none of that talk will be needed because the US are in! As it stands right now the US will play either Serbia or Ghana both very good teams but also beatable. This type of sports story MAkes it easier for me to forgot what this blog had chronicled so well, the unspeakable event that still hasn't left my heart. We all know what I am talking about.

Game 7

In perhaps the biggest NBA game of the decade a Kendrick Perkins-less Celtics team will set foot on the Staples Center floor in search of an NBA record banner number 18. What are the keys to the Celtics actually winning? To me there are three, The play of the Celtics big men, the ability of Rondo to influence the game offensively, and the play of Kevin Garnett.
There will be a huge void to fill inside but unlike the entire sports world I think that the combination of Glen Davis and Rasheed Wallace is just as formidable as Kendrick Perkins. For what those two lack on defense they add so much more on offense, Sheed stretches the defense and Big Baby is capable of out playing the Lakers bigs inside like he did in game 4. There was an alarming rebounding gap in game 6 so it is huge that not only the Bigs rebound but the entire puts more focus on the glass, it is the type of game where I expect Rondo to have huge rebounding numbers. As for the player with newly heightened minutes, if Sheldon Williams can bring anything positive in his minutes then I think the focus of the game will be back on the perimeter.
Big players come up big in big games and I expect Kobe and Pierce to have huge games so it will be up to players like Pau Gasol, Kevin Garnett, Ron Artest and Rajon Rondo to emerge as stars in order to bring their teams the trophy. For the Celtics, it all starts with Rondo if he sets the tempo in transition and attacks the basket with relentlessness then the Celtics have a chance to force their will upon the Lakers. For me the next most important player is KG.
With Perkins out it is likely that he will be playing much larger minutes then usual and if he can be aggressive on offense and limit Gasol and Bynum then losing Perk won't seem as bad. Now as for what I think will actually happen, the Celtics need to come out firing and show that this game will go down to the last possession. The stats don't favor the C's, in the 17 NBA finals game 7's the away team has only won four times but Boston has done it in LA before. I think this will be a great game and I think the Celtics will prevail despite the loss of Perkins. Even after the game 6 blowout I still think the Celtics are a better "team" and are capable of rising to the occasion when everything is on the line. Grand Theft Rondo in full effect tonight!

Tidbits

As you can see I changed the background today. New font. New colors. Think it is a little more sleek. Hope whoever still reads likes it. I am finally employed. Will be starting working construction tomorrow, will be getting somewhere in between 18-20 bucks an hour. 7am-3pm Monday thru Friday. It is going to be tiring weekdays and relaxing weekends from here on out. In music news Kid Cudi was arrested for aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance. Not too suprising because Cudder has had a couple of other run-ins with the law. The surprise was that the substance was liquid cocaine. Liquid Cocaine? Really? Knew this guy was a little weird and alternative but what possessed him to get liquified cocaine? On a less criminal note Drake's album comes out today. Still haven't heard most of it despite the leak a week or so ago. I do not think it will be a week on the scale of Lil Wayne and in my opinion even a week as big as Eminem's upcoming release.
In other sports news the World Cup has started and I have watched a good amount. There is much intrigue in this country because our team has a very likely chance to MAke it out of the group stage for the first time since the quarterfinal run in 2002. Watching the game against England I saw a defense wall up against a potent English squad but yet again much like 2006 World Cup scoring was a slight problem. It took a little help from England goalie Robert Greene to salvage a very big tie for the US. As far as how deep I think they will go in the tournament, I really like how this team plays and although I am not a soccer scholar I think they have a real chance to make the quarters again. Assuming they get two wins in their last round robin games they could be sitting on top of group C. I think winning the group is very possible and if they were to win the group they would play a team like Ghana instead of GerMAny, which is the team that looked the best in their opener, which would MAke the quarters much more realistic. My prediction is that they will beat Algeria and Solvenia soundly and win group C. After that they will beat Ghana by one goal and squeak into the quarterfinals. Some MAy think it is a bold prediction but this is the best team we have had in some time and it is time for the US to step up in WC play. Now my finalists and winner are as follows.
In the final I see GerMAny playing Netherlands and the Netherlands winning the Cup. Neither is a popular pick as a winner or finalist but they both have powerful players up front and can defend with the best in Europe. Now go watch North Korea battle Brazil.

Game 6

This could be it. It is a BIG could. It is imperative that the C's come out geeked up. The Lakers will be playing for their season so Kobe will be in full effect as will Mr. Gasol. Now do I think the Celtics can pull this off? Yes. They have been road warriors all year and a veteran team like this one has the definite capability to pull of the game 6 win and not have to worry about beating the Western Conference champs on their home court for the title in a game 7. This is very much like the Cleveland series were the possibility of playing a seventh game on the road is very, very daunting. Starting and finishing the game well will be the key to Banner 18. GO GREEN!

Iced!

Happy Birthday Austin. Courtesy of MAx Metcalfe.

It's B Seig in the place to be....

As I walked away from grabbing a Bud Light I noticed a group of rowdy men yucking it up. Luckily my keen eye spotted this MAn sporting his Lakers fitted. I told him it was very unfortunate he wasn't a celtic fan and we snapped this priceless gem. It's the ROC!

Game 3

I'll be there. You better be watching. Celtics and KG have a homecoming jungle party and take the 2-1 series lead. Knowing my prediction skills this could be a jinx but guess what I WILL NOT LOSE! Look for me Jared and Party Boy Brock a newly legal 21 year old adult behind the LakeShow bench.

Music

For me the biggest news in Music is the pending releases of Eminem's album and Drake's album. These two are perhaps the biggest stars in hip hop right now because of Lil Wayne's incarceration. Any Em fan knows that he is spitting hot fire lately. His "Despicable Freestyle" on Drake's Over and Beamer, Benz, Bentley is certifiably certifiable. He killed Drake's first single like no one else and believe me MAny others tried. His first single of Recovery is Not Afraid a a Lose Yourself esk track that I would give a 6 or 7. Not great but does the job. The second track that has leaked is a collab with Pink, I know Pink?? His verses on this track are pretty solid and Just Blaze provides a rock type beat that he rips up. I am excited for his album to release and know that it will be a level above Relapse.
Drake on the other hand has an album that will not stop leaking. I have 7-8 songs from his album already. My favorite being his collabs with Jay-Z entitled "Light Up" and Alicia Keys titled "Fireworks". Now regardless of what I think this will be one of the biggest Rap debuts in history. I am not as gaga for Drake as MAny of my friends but I respect his skills and will probably download the rest of his album once it leaks. I just wish the MAn would stop singing, I want him to be a rapper and not a singer. I have always had a problem with the album title because it MAkes a fan like me expect a classic album and classic don't have room for songs like the one he has with The Dream, Shut it Down, which just isn't anything special at all. Some people see me as being over critical or too harsh on Drake but the MAn talks a big game and I expect big results. Now here is a list of new songs to check out.

Newest Bro Tomfoolery

Bros Icing Bros. Most have heard about it. Some have witnessed it. Some live it. For those who do not know it is the rules are provided below by Bros Icing Bros. The key is to MAke wherever this happens be a public forum the more public the better. I have seen pics of someone being iced at his college graduation. Here is a link to more ridiculous photos of Bros getting Iced, http://brosicingbros.com/.

What a difference one game MAkes...

This is probably how Ray felt last night when he was wetter then the Nile last night. Rondo gets another triple double. Ray Allen played like Jesus. Jesus Shuttlesworth that is, who is pictured above. Sheed, Nate, and TA all gave solid efforts off the bench in order to hang on to the slim lead we had and the mAster Mr. Rondo took over in the fourth. This is a team that looked entirely changed from Game 1 to Game 2 and coming back home for three games will only further motivate this team to complete a potential Boston sweep. I will be there for games 3 and 5. Let's Beat LA, Again.

Summer Blogging

I have been really upset with my lack of motivation to blog during the summer. Frankly I have had a strong lack of motivation to do anything that doesn't translate into adult fun. Being Monday and the start of a new week and kind of a new month I have decided to get back into the swing of things. I am still jobless but I have a new found motivation to keep up with this blog and put a little more meaning into my summer activities. In saying all this I have missed a lot of blog worthy events wether in sports or otherwise not to mention I know there are MAny people just drooling at the next list of songs I will put out into cyberspace. So, although I have been home almost three weeks it is official the start of my summer blogging season. Here is a video of a ridiculously jacked man leg pressing 2300 pounds. YEAHHHH BUDDDAAYYYY LIGHT WEIGHT!

R.I.P John Wooden 1910-2010

For those that don't know who this MAn is, you're looking at possibly the greatest coach in sports history. Here is a MAn who won 88 straight games and 620 overall including 10 championships which included a streak of 7 in a row during the 60's and 70's. He left a MArk on the game of basketball and coaching that is unheard in sports today. He revolutionized the game and with the help of stars like Lew Alcindor, Bill Walton, and Kareem made UCLA a college basketball powerhouse. Often times when I was at AAU basketball practice my coach would hurl Wooden quotes at us to inspire. I don't remember MAny of them but one I do remember is "be quick, but don't hurry", seems like a weird thing to say but as a player and student of the game myself it is something that would have MAde me smile if I heard my coach say it during practice. As I have heard players who were coached by him the MAn had a patience and love for the game that it was shown through how his players went out and dominated college basketball. It not so much that we lost a great coach or symbol for the game of basketball but we lost a great MAn. His legacy will live on because of that fact. He changed the way a coach should be looked at, he was a coach and mentor he not only taught a game but he taught about life. Nowadays coaches leave schools to get a bigger contract or develop their name as a brand in coaching, most have lost sight of the importance of sport and the role a coach like Wooden can play. He was a one of a kind and frankly it is discouraging that more coaches today don't try to emulate his way of thinking and coaching. He sought to build young men into adult males through the game of basketball isn't that what every coach should be doing? MAy he rest in peace.
